Featured Babe 7/23 – Sue Setiadji

Hey again Sweet Shoppers! It’s amazing to think that July is quickly winding down and for us that means the end of summer vacation. I wish it meant the end of our oppressive heat but that won’t come til October around here. But that means plenty of scrapping inside where it’s nice and cool. This week’s Featured Staffer is someone who’s been around Sweet Shoppe since the very beginning – Sue Setiadji. Sue’s gallery is amazing, and it seems like every new layout she does ends up right in my faves.

Here’s a little more about Sue:

My digital scrapbook obsession started in mid 2005. I had only been paper scrapping for a little while and spent time wandering the online galleries for extra inspiration. When I purchased a film scanner to capture all of my childhood slides it came with Photoshop Elements 3. That was the catalyst to create my first digital page. I now use Photoshop CS3, my dining table is only cluttered with a sewing machine occasionally and the paper scissors were put to use for preschool crafts.

How long have you been a babe?
Love that title – let’s face it when you’ve hit the half century there’s not too many places you can go and still be called a babe! Sorry – the question – I’m the oldest babe as well as the longest consecutively serving babe. I was on the very first creative team when the Sweet Shoppe opened.

Are you a kit scrapper or more hodge-podge?
Yes and Yes! I love mixing it up with different designers and I also love working within the boundaries of a kit. It really depends on my own mood and the mood I’m attempting to portray in my layout.

Are you a morning or a night-time scrapper?
Morning, Noon and Night! They are all great scrapping times for me. It depends what I have going on each day. If I have some quiet time at home during the day when my kids are at school I’ll sneak in a few hours. On my work days I don’t have a lot of time to scrap so I might squeeze in a few late hours after dinner if I can stay awake. I have been known to scrap from night to morning and then enjoyed a Nanny nap at noon. With a traveling husband and highly active daughters I tend to be driven in various directions by their schedules. I’m honestly not sure if I’m not routine driven because of my lifestyle or if my lifestyle has become this way because I’m not routine driven. I seem to be able to make it all work and I enjoy the buzz of spontaneity.

I also asked Sue to share a few of her own favorite layouts and tell us what she loves about them:

I adore this memory so much. It was one of those magic moments in life that’s truly special. A gift from the heart at a time where it was least expected. It was the first time I’ve seen my eldest daughter crying uncontrollable tears of joy.

This layout celebrates so many aspects of my youngest daughter’s personality as well as her quirky creativity in the art of spelling. This was her first ever email to me. She created her own version of a chain mail about Mums. Her spelling mistakes are always hilarious and she often makes up words that she believes exist and if they don’t then they should have anyway! Of course I asked her permission to publish this one and she was quite proud that I thought it worthy.

One of life’s seemingly trivial moments! A simple casual walk along the beach but it feels so profoundly timeless to me. One of the best things you can give a child (apart from a puppy, of course) is time. I love how easily my Dad gives time to my daughters when he has the opportunity. As my Dad approaches his 80th year I am treasuring these moments more and more, uncertain of how much longer we’ll have together to enjoy them.
