Workin’ it with a Personalized Font by Darcy!

Hey gals! It’s my first blog post…and it’s so exciting! I’m so happy to be here at SSD with such a great group of girls..especially YOU!

Sooooo…let’s talk fonts!!

For my wedding shower, all the guests included recipe cards of one of their favorite dishes to start our family’s recipe book. One of my most treasured items in the world is the recipe card my mom did of two of my favorite meals she created, written by her. I lost her about three years ago, and don’t have too many samples of her writing, and I treasure this card because it’s a bit of HER. Not something she gave me..but something of her. I hope, someday, when I’m gone, the stories I’ve left behind for the boys will mean a little more becuase they were written in my handwriting.

I journal a lot, and missed the ability to do it in my own writing when I switched from paper to digi a couple of years ago. And one of the first things I invested in was my own handwriting fonts. I was SO glad I did it. And now that I create them, our scrapbooks are full of the handwriting of my husband and my oldest son as well. And you bet, when the little one finally creates recognizable letters, I’ll make his handwriting into a font, too! LOL

All this is to encourage you, if you haven’t done it yet, consider having your own writing made into a font that can be used to capture your thoughts and feelings for generations…a little more of you on each page.

A few quick Questions I’ve been asked a lot that I can answer here.

** Yes, I make your handwriting look as close to your sample as I possibly can. I work with you to get it that way in spacing, sizing, etc. And if we need to redo a few letters, we can!

** It just takes a few tools – a good pen, a scanner that can scan at 300dpi, and some paper. No forms (which I feel box you into something that isn’t truly your writing), no weird equipment, just a few simple things and we’re good to go. If you don’t have a scanner, we can use a few alternatives such as scanning at a local copy shop, etc.

** Yes, I can do children’s handwriting, or other family members, as long as we have a good sample.

** Oft times, when people think they have a mixture of cursive and print, they really have a print handwriting with a few connectors. If you have a question about your font before you want to order, we can certainly look at a quick sample to make sure, but 95% of the time, they’re really a print.

If you have any other questions, let me know by asking here or PM’ng me in the store!

For those of you looking at ‘how’ to do it. You basically visit the shop (link above) and choose which handwriting font you wish to purchase. Do you want just a print or a cursive…make it custom (which I can then resell) or go premiere…which is all yours alone.

Then you’ll receive a download that gives you instructions on how to create your sample (type of pen…paper, some hints). Then you scan it at 300dpi and email it to me. Less than 2 days later, you’ll have your very own font!

Here are a few samples of fonts in the shop done by other scrappers just like you!

Hope you all have a great week!!!!

  • I have a question for you… my brother is at Marine boot camp right now, and he’s been writing letters home to my parents that my mom would like to type up and have bound into a book for him as a record of his time there. Would it be possible to make his handwriting into a font based only on his letters, or would we have to have him write out the alphabet and mail it to us?

  • Perfect! I’m looking for my own font for a long time… Just need time to draw each letter in the best way!

  • WELL-WORK it girl…Just work it.

    Hi Jessica –

Honestly – if you have the person available to create their sample, it’s much easier and much less expensive. Custom fonts from writings tend to be expensive ($150+) and are really hard to do because you might not have every letter you need, letters aren’t written with good pens or pens that match up, and on papers that don’t always make themselves condusive for the extraction of letters in a clean fashion. So if he’s available, definitely have him write out his alpha!

  • Thank you Darcy!
Can’t wait to get my own font! 🙂

  • oh thanks Darcy! I LOVE your fonts and use your djb_sissy font ALL the time. I can’t wait to get my own font done as soon as I have some money lol.

  • Thank you so much for the treat Darcy! 🙂 I LOVE your fonts and use them all the time. Getting my hand writting made into a font is something I really want to do. It is amazing how you are able to do that.

  • Hi, Me again with a quick Question. Were most of your fonts that you have in the Shoppe right now done with a 0.05 or 0.07 pen? I would like to have mine kind of bold like the Jenna, Addressbook and Sissy fonts. Thanks and sorry for bugging you! Thanks–Robin

  • Thanks Darcy…you are tempting me more and more to let you do my font…

  • Thank you so much Darcy!! I love your fonts!!

  • Wow! Thank you so much!

  • oohh, thanks for the nice treat! Getting my own print is definately on my to do list!! Definately a cool personal touch to digi pages!

  • Thank you! Thank you! 🙂

  • Thanks, Darcy! The online publishing software I work with can only allow .png or .jpg files…is it possible to get these custom handwriting fonts in one of those formats as it’s all I would be using.

Hey Robin – you’re not bugging me at all!

I can’t tell you what pen was used with most fonts as I usually don’t ask ahead of time. But if you’re wanting something thicker, definitely go with a sharpie fine point (not the ultra) or .07 zig. Even a stampin’ up thick pen works great as I just did one for a customer yesterday. If you want a bolder look, definitely go with a bolder pen. Just need to make sure it’s not so thick that your letters close in.

  • hi Darcy, i’m yolly from the Philippines. • thank you sooo much! I’d love to have a font made — maybe for my birthday! 🙂

  • Thanks so much for the freebie! How wonderful!

  • I love the custom font that you did for me a few months ago, Darcy! It was such a good investment–I use it on at least half my pages. I like having my handwriting in my albums, and now I have a go-to font that works on any page, eliminating time spent choosing fonts. Thanks for the freebie!

  • Great idea and thank you for the goody. I love this idea. 🙂

    Hugs,
    Jonni

  • Thanks so much for the great font Darcy! I love using my handwriting font – though it is really freaky to see my writing on the screen. 🙂

  • Thank you SO MUCH for the gift!!!

  • Hey Darcy! I just have to say (once again) how much I LOVE the custom font you did for me a few months ago. As rach3975, I use it on most of my pages and I cherish those even more since I used my handwriting on it! I was one of those typical not-sure-if-I’m-cursive-or-print, and using the print package was just perfect! Thanks again for all the yummy products!!

  • You are so sweet!! Thanks so much for the awesome font!

  • Thanks so much for the freebie!!!

  • Thanks for sharing one of your great fonts!

  • Thanks Darcy! Looks like a great journaling font!
And I can vouch for your wonderful personal fonts–my daughter Juliana gave me one for Christmas last year & everyone thinks that it’s really true to my own handwriting.
